Kannada poet HS Venkatesh Murthy passed away today at the age of 80

Dr. Hodigere Shanbhog Venkatesh Murthy was born on 23 June 1944 in Hodigere. He was an Indian poet and playwright by profession. Today he passed away at the age of 80 in Kengeri, Bengaluru due to health problems.

Career

After completing his schooling, he went to Central College Bangalore for a master’s degree. He was appointed as a lecturer and professor at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bangalore for 30 years. He was also awarded a doctorate degree in Literature for his research on Kannadadalli Kathana Kavanagalu. Dr. HS Venkatesh Murthy had written more than 100 books in his lifetime till 2020.

Awards

Dr. HS Venkatesh Murthy was mainly honored with the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize in 1991, the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award in 1993, and the Rajyotsava Award in 2003. Apart from this, he also received the Bala Puraskar Award by the Central Sahitya Academy, India in 2013 and the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist in the 66th for Hasiru Ribbon.

Contribution in Films

He also contributed a lot to films. Some of his main films are Chinnari Mutta, for which he wrote the story, dialogue, and songs; all the songs of Kotreshi Kanasu; dialogues of Kraurya; songs of Mythri, etc.

Today we pay tribute to such a great poet, Dr. Hodigere Shanbhog Venkatesh Murthy, and pray for the peace of his soul.
