Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life Review: A Fast-Paced Gangster Drama with an Emotional Core

Thug Life Review: Kamal Haasan last showed real magic in his movie Vikram. After that, he has not been able to deliver any big movie. Now it seems that Thug Life will be his comeback movie. You will get to see the same magic and the same performance in the movie Thug Life.

The legendary actor, the veteran actor Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life movie has been released today. Before this, Indian 2 proved to be a failure at the box office. Apart from this, he was seen in Kalki, but you all know how small that part was, and you will get to see his main role in the second part of Kalki.

Thug Life One Word Review: Decent (3.5/5)

If we describe Thug Life in one word, then we cannot call it a masterpiece, but yes, we can call it decent. This movie does not have all those elements which will entertain the audience, but still, this movie will definitely keep the audience hooked.

Kamal Hasaan’s Diversity in Filmography

How can one praise Kamal Haasan’s acting? This is the 234th movie of his career, and you will have to agree that each of his roles in a movie is quite different from the last one. Now you can pick up his filmography only after Covid. In Vikram, he had a completely over-the-top role. In Kalki, a different villain avatar was seen. And today in Thug Life, you will get to see a completely new character and a new guy.

Thug Life Story Without any Spoilers

Don’t worry, I won’t give you spoilers; I won’t spoil your fun. So the story begins many years ago when Kamal Haasan and his brother are gangsters. In their society, there is only fighting. There is cheating everywhere. There is bullying everywhere. There is crime everywhere. In such a situation, I don’t know how they do a good deed. An innocent child comes to them from somewhere. They keep him with them and make him their son.

At the beginning of the movie, you will see Kamal Haasan as a very powerful gangster. After the interval, his role is that of a powerful gangster. After the interval, you will see a change, and his real face will be revealed to you. Kamal Haasan will set up his own empire after a lot of hard work and sacrifices. When his adopted son grows up, he will also join Kamal Haasan and take over the work. But as I told you in the beginning, there is deception in his society’s surroundings; there is greed for money and power in his society’s surroundings. The same greed comes into Kamal Haasan’s son as well, and he plans to take over his father.

There is a very famous dialogue in the movie Footpath: “When bullets are being fired in the street, a person goes to his house and closes the door. But when bullets are being fired in a person’s house, where should the person go?”

You will get to see the real form of this dialogue in this movie. Especially after the interval, you will see friends and then father and son fighting against each other. Its climax is so amazing that you will literally get hooked. The real paisa vasool fun is in its climax.

Screenplay and Multi-Layered Story

The screenplay of the movie is quite fast. There are quite a few scenes that will make you enjoy it, and there are very few scenes that will bore you. Now, because I have told you that in this movie, you will get to see three to four stories. You will get to see the role model of a society, what is happening in the society. You will get to see the background of Kamal Haasan ji. You will get to see the relationship between Kamal Haasan ji and his son. And then in the ending, you will literally be shocked. That is why the screenplay is quite fast-paced.

Direction and Music

The cinematography of the movie is very brilliant. The VFX is decent. The colour grading is decent. But one thing that is standing out is the music of AR Rahman and the direction of Mani Ratnam. AR Rahman has given tense music, especially which was a great support for tense scenes. But apart from this, the music is not that strong at some places.

Mani Ratnam sir’s direction is amazing. This is another treat for his fans. This is another special masterclass from Mani Ratnam sir for all of you.

Thug Life Cast

In Thug Life, along with Kamal Haasan, Trisha Krishnan is in the lead role, while Silambarasan TR, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ravi Mohan, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Suresh Saraf and Joju George are also in important roles in the film.

Thug Life Box Office Collection

We would recommend you to enjoy this movie in theatres; it will be a decent experience for you. This movie has been released in almost 12,000 shows in India, out of which 3,000 shows are in Hindi.

The Box Office India net collection of the movie on the first day can be between 20 to 25 crores. If the word of mouth for this movie is positive, then this figure can go even higher. And it will keep enjoying box office collections throughout the month of June, even till the month of July.
